At Hark's Ark Animal Sanctuary, I am committed to providing a safe and loving environment for every animal in my care. The mission here is to rescue, rehabilitate and care for animals in need.
Located in Bruce Crossing, Michigan, on the western end of the beautiful Upper Peninsula, Hark's Ark is a 501-3(c) tax exempt corporation, and all donations we receive are tax deductible.
As a young girl growing up in a large family, many of our pets were "dropped off" at the local shelter because quite frankly, my mother was overwhelmed with 9 children, and the pets only added to Mom's daily chaos. I would come home from school to see my pet, only to find they were no longer residing in my home. This really disturbed me, and I would cry and write poems mourning their loss.
As soon as I had a place of my own, I would bring home any stray that I came in contact with. Typically, these lost souls were dogs and cats.
In 2010 I bought a farm and one day while scrolling through Facebook, I came upon a horse facility in New Jersey that would auction horses and donkeys every Wednesday evening. The animals that were not sold at the auction were posted on Facebook, and folks had until Saturday afternoon at 1:00 Eastern Time to pay the price that the horse would bring at slaughter. Some of these animals were being sold for as little as $50, depending on their weight. Some were mares with newborn foals at their side. Many were young. All were beautiful!
I could not believe this goes on every week. On 3 separate occasions I adopted 8 horses, two ponies, and two donkeys and had them shipped to my farm in Bruce Crossing, Michigan.

Are you passionate about the need to help homeless animals? Do you wish you could help, but haven't the time or space? Over the past 10 years, I have provided shelter for over 100 animals, personally funding and caring for the entire operation. Cats and dogs, horses, donkeys, sheep, goats, pot-bellied pigs, chickens, roosters, geese, turkeys, guinea hens and ducks are our beneficiaries!
We need you and you can help! We would love to have you become part of our team!
Whether you help through monetary donations, are able to volunteer your time, or spread our mission through word-of-mouth, our furry and feathered friends thank you. We couldn't accomplish our goals without the help of supporters like you.
Our goal is to provide our four-legged and furry friends with a forever-home so they never are at risk of becoming homeless again.
100% of your donation feeds and shelters these animals. No salaries are paid. Your generous gift will help us fund our mission to help these animals in need. Together, we can make a difference.
